the gold leafed branch
arises in my mind and against the sky
as an offering to the knower

never before was there such a branch
and never before such a knower

this poem
arises in my mind
as if there were such a man,
as if I too had a history
beyond this time

as if there were more
than this unfailing agreement
to arise for each other
in beginningless new ways
right now
